Xylo Core and Xylo Force

A New Innovation Is Born

The Next Generation of Composite Sails Has Arrived

Elvstrøm Sails has once again pushed sailmaking forward with the launch of XYLO – the next generation of composite sail technology. Built on advanced spread filament technology and Technora® fibres, XYLO sets a new benchmark for sail shape, stability and durability.

As the UK distributor for Elvstrøm Sails, VMG Sailing is proud to introduce this groundbreaking innovation to British sailors.

What Is XYLO?

XYLO combines high-strength Technora fibres with a spread filament layout to create an exceptionally lightweight sail structure with full fibre coverage. The result is a sail that delivers outstanding shape retention, load distribution and long-term performance.

This innovative construction eliminates fibre-free gaps found in traditional laminates, significantly improving structural integrity and consistency over time.

Two Versions. One New Standard.

XYLO is available in two distinct versions, each designed for specific sailing demands.

XYLO Core – Performance Racing

Designed with the committed racer in mind, XYLO Core uses a filament-only construction to achieve maximum weight reduction and a highly refined racing profile.

  • Optimised for shape stability and performance
  • Ultra-light composite construction
  • Available in Zonda and Koonaa Race segments

XYLO Core represents the pinnacle of shape-holding performance in the Elvstrøm range.

XYLO Force – High-Performance Cruising

Building on the proven XYLO platform, XYLO Force is engineered for performance cruising, incorporating a protective taffeta layer for enhanced durability.

  • Exceptional longevity and robustness
  • Ideal for demanding cruising programmes
  • Available in Solano and Koonaa Cruise segments

Both XYLO Core and XYLO Force are available for conventional and in-mast furling sails, ensuring no compromise in performance regardless of sail handling system.

360° Stability – A New Design Principle

At the heart of XYLO lies Elvstrøm’s 360° Stability concept. This design philosophy ensures balanced load distribution in all directions, resulting in a sail that holds its intended shape under every point of sail.

The wide filament layout provides continuous fibre coverage throughout the sail, improving both aerodynamic efficiency and long-term structural stability.

Advanced Structure & Materials

XYLO’s construction uses a unique crosslinking process with advanced thermoset adhesives. This creates a molecular structure that delivers:

  • Very high tensile strength
  • Excellent flexibility
  • Outstanding resistance to fatigue

Both XYLO Core and XYLO Force sit at the very top of Elvstrøm’s performance-to-durability spectrum—Core prioritising pure shape stability, and Force offering extended lifespan through additional protection.

Completing the Circle of Sail Technologies

With the introduction of XYLO, Elvstrøm Sails now offers all four core sail technologies:

  • Woven polyester sailcloths
  • Laminates
  • EPEX membrane technology
  • XYLO composite sails

XYLO represents the next evolution, combining cutting-edge materials and adhesives with the proven vacuum lamination principles pioneered in the patented EPEX system.

Available 2026

XYLO Core will be available for spring 2026 deliveries, with XYLO Force following as part of the full product range.
